Ja Qwan Taylor-El, 22, is facing a host of criminal charges after being identified by members of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office as a fugitive who was wanted in both Baltimore and Frederick counties.
Shortly after 7 p.m. on April 15, deputies conducted a traffic stop on New Design Road near Guilford Drive, and during that stop, it was determined that Taylor-El, a passenger in the back of the vehicle, was wanted for attempted first-degree murder, using a firearm during a felony or violent crime, and other related offenses.
Taylor-El was also wanted by the Frederick Police Department on drug charges. He was taken into custody by members of the sheriff's office without incident on Monday, though his night was just getting started.
A police K9 was called to the scene to search the vehicle, which led to the recovery of a loaded Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum revolver that was reported stolen in Bowie five years ago, four grams of cocaine, and a scale.
Further investigation found that the driver of the stopped vehicle was an Uber employee transporting Taylor-El from Frederick to Baltimore and the contraband was all his.
The Middle River resident was charged in Frederick County with:
- CDS: Possession with intent to distribute;
- CDS: Possession of cocaine;
- CDS: Distribution with a firearm;
- Use of a firearm in a drug trafficking crime;
- Use of a firearm in a felony or violent crime;
- Loaded handgun in a vehicle;
- Handgun in a vehicle.
Taylor-El was also served with the outstanding warrants. He's being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center on a no bond status.
